Producer - Coal Yeat Pedigree Saddleback Pigs

There is a simple equasion 'time equals taste'! As rare breed pigs grow slower and usually live some of the year outside they produce meat with fantastic taste.

Three local butchers have the sole supply from John Sutcliffes coal yeat herd of pedigree rare breed pigs. These are Dales Butchers in Kirkby Lonsdale, Plumgarths Farm Shop near Kendal and Aireys Butchers near Newby Bridge. Here the rare breed pork, bacon, hams, sausage and pies offer a unique opportunity to sample the individuality of the craftsman butchers combined with this very tasty pork.

Aireys Cumberland Sausage was voted by the public to be the best in Cumbria, Dales Butchers sausages and pies regularly win regional and national competitions with pork based squarely on rare breed Saddleback pork.

'Eat them to keep them' - rare breeds cannot survive if you do not help in their sustainability by asking for rare breed pork. Only about 10% of all rare breed pigs go onto continue the pedigree lines, the rest have to be eaten. Therefore you can help their survival and enjoy the eating qualities unique to these traditional British breeds of pigs.

John and Carole Barr also run pig keeping courses once a month, two very experienced pig keepers passing on their combined knowledge, for full information on these courses visit www.pigkeepingcourses.co.uk.

Further information and regular updates on happenings on the farm can be found on www.saddlebackpigs.co.uk. John will be at the Cumbrian Sausage Celebration at K Village and looks forward to welcoming you to see his live pigs.
